We’ve seen this before — let’s not repeat it.
Hey New York City,
We know what happens when we settle for leadership that protects power instead of people. Almost exactly a year ago, Byron Brown resigned mid-term as mayor of Buffalo and left the city in a fiscal crisis.
By instilling fear of an “inexperienced radical socialist” leading the city, he defeated me in November 2021 after I’d won Buffalo’s Democratic mayoral primary; Brown gained an unprecedented fifth term thanks to a legally-questionable write-in campaign. He then abandoned his post, leaving the city more than 70 million dollars in debt. It seems appropriate that he landed a job as an Off-Track Betting CEO since he did such a great job gambling away our future.
With Zohran Mamdani, New York City now has a vibrant, courageous leader ready to take on the challenges of the day – and once again, the old guard comes in to protect power and wealth. Andrew Cuomo resigned as governor after a consensus within his own party leadership and now is attempting to convince New Yorkers he's something other than a self-serving opportunist colluding with Trump and his authoritarian regime.
Don’t fall for it.

The only way to defeat the billionaire influence on NY politics is with conversations with fellow New Yorkers and by showing up to vote.
Early voting starts in just 9 days on Saturday October 25th. We need to show up in force to elect Zohran mayor. Here’s info on early voting.
This moment calls for leaders who organize with the people, not over them. Folks who stand up for affordable housing, universal childcare, climate, and justice. The kind who aren’t afraid to speak truth to power.
First things first: make sure you’re registered to vote. Visit https://vote.nyc/page/register-vote to check your registration or update it.

Democracy doesn’t defend itself; it depends on us.
We’ve seen what happens when we don’t show up. Let’s do things differently this time.
In solidarity, India Walton
