Chuck Schumer is a master loser. He saw a winning strategy in the New York mayoral race and didn't even endorse his party's winning candidate.

He saw strong support for opposing Trump's demand to strip more people of health care, and he figured out a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Just the right number of Democratic senators was found from among those not on the ballot in 2026. The deal was strengthened just enough to get them on board, but not a smidgen more. The Cave-In Caucus came together to end the government shutdown.¹
