As you might know, there is a Democratic Party primary election coming up in Illinois’s 8th district on Tuesday, March 17th. What you might not know is that this will be a competitive election for an open seat. RootsAction and many other progressive organizations are enthusiastically backing rising star JUNAID AHMED in this election. 

Junaid is a fighter for working people who stood with his community in providing direct services to neighbors on Chicago’s North Side during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. If he is elected to serve in Congress, he will be one of the strongest progressive members in the whole body.

Illinois allows early voting by mail or in-person beginning on February 5th. You can learn more about early voting here or request a mail-in ballot here.

The political establishment does not want Junaid to win; they would prefer to keep pesky progressives away from the levers of power. That’s why we need everyone who cares about seriously fighting Trumpism and winning victories for working people to come out and vote for Junaid in the primary!

2026 is going to be an incredibly consequential election year. Not only must we beat back Trump’s authoritarian politics, we also need to make sure progressives win as many seats as possible in the next Congress.
