As we’re sure you know, there’s a primary election coming up in Illinois’s 9th district on Tuesday, March 17th – and it’s a competitive election for an open seat. RootsAction and many other progressive organizations are enthusiastically backing rising star KAT ABUGHAZALEH in this election.   

Kat is committed to progressive policy, from fighting fascism at home to calling out genocide in Gaza. If she is elected to Congress, she’ll be one of the most progressive members.

That’s where you come in. This will be a close election, with big money backing Kat’s opponents, and she’ll need all the people power she can get. You can join and support Kat’s campaign through her website: https://katforillinois.com. And you can check your voter registration here to make sure you’re up-to-date and ready to vote. Early voting starts on March 2nd in most areas in the district, and has already started in a few areas. You can learn more about early voting here or request a mail-in ballot here.

The political establishment does not want Kat to win; they would prefer to keep pesky progressives away from the levers of power. That’s why we need everyone who cares about seriously fighting Trumpism and winning victories for working people to come out and vote for Kat in the primary!

2026 is going to be an incredibly consequential election year. Not only must we beat back Trump’s authoritarian politics, we also need to make sure progressives win as many seats as possible in the next Congress.

So, please make a plan to vote and support Kat Abughazaleh on or before Tuesday, March 17.
