Last year, the average U.S. taxpayer paid over $4000 into the war machine¹, making the United States the biggest spender in the world by far on militarism and the biggest per capita with the exception of Israel (whose military is also funded by the U.S. government)².  Meanwhile, the U.S. falls tragically short of other wealthy countries in addressing healthcare, housing, education, and retirement.

When we took an antiwar message to the Democratic National Committee meeting last week, NBC News informed us that voters don't care as much about wars as they do about basic economic needs — without bothering to point out that those basic economic needs largely go unmet in order to dump more of our tax money into wars.³

With Trump proposing a dramatic, unprecedented 50% increase in military spending — at the cost of other federal expenditures that are good and decent — some members of Congress are publicly saying that they will vote no and that their colleagues should as well.

At the initiative of Taxpayers Against Genocide, numerous U.S. organizations have signed onto "A Pledge to Take Action on U.S. Tax Day April 15, 2026: STOP USING Our Tax Dollars to fund Genocide and Oppression in the U.S. and Abroad." Click here to see if there's a protest near you.

Globally,  the 15th edition of the Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) are underway from April 10 to May 9, 2026. This year's GDAMS will include actions and webinars happening during the following days:

•  April 15: Tax Day in the USA
•  April 22: Earth Day
•  April 27: SIPRI’s release of new data on military spending
•  May 1:  New edition of Mapping Militarism from WBW
•  May 9: Europe’s Day of Peace

If you are a doctor or a medical student or other healthcare professional or just want to help and can be in Washington D.C. on April 15, Doctors Against Genocide is leading a special day of advocacy on Capitol Hill. The hope is to have 1000 white coats on the Hill that day. All health professionals should wear white coats, and all other supporters white shirts, as we tell Congress to end all support for wars.
