We should be spying on the government, not the other way around

Hi Friends,

There's support across the U.S. political spectrum to end warrantless spying on the U.S. public. There are new bills in both houses of Congress with members of both big parties signed on. They need more momentum, and it's urgent.

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) has been used to grossly violate our Constitutional rights. It expires April 30, but Congress will reauthorize it if we don't act.

The Government Surveillance Reform Act (S.4082 / H.R.6262) provides a clear solution. Are your Senators and Representative cosponsoring and promoting it?

Email them to make sure!

This bill would

  • Require the federal government to get a warrant to access Americans’ private communications gathered under Section 702, with important exceptions for emergency situations.
  • Bans the federal government from buying Americans’ data from data brokers without a warrant.
  • Prohibit using surveillance on foreigners overseas through Section 702 as a pretext for gathering data on Americans.
  • Repeal a controversial 2024 expansion that allows the government to force millions of Americans and companies to secretly spy on its behalf.
  • Protect Americans from intelligence agencies using non-statutory authorities, including by prohibiting backdoor searches and reverse targeting outside of FISA.
  • Require federal law enforcement to get a warrant to surveil Americans’ location information, web browsing data, search and chatbot records, and car onboard and telematics data.
  • Protect Americans’ data from warrantless collection under an authority that expired over five years ago.
  • Strengthen judicial oversight, public reporting, and accountability requirements under FISA.
