We support Tom Steyer for California

Hi Friends,

As California progressives know well, RootsAction is anti-corporate and anti-billionaire to our core. And yet, after reviewing the field of candidates, we’ve decided to support Tom Steyer, a billionaire and former hedge fund manager, for governor of California.

RootsAction’s national director, Norman Solomon, who was elected from California as a Bernie Sanders delegate to the 2016 and 2020 Democratic National Conventions, said today: “RootsAction is supporting Tom Steyer because he has reached out to voters across the state with a clear and specific reform agenda that includes such vital policy positions as CalCare universal coverage, support for the billionaire tax proposed by labor unions, breaking up the monopolistic power of utilities like PG&E, SoCal Edison and SDG&E, and ending the commercial property tax loophole.”

Out of desperation, California’s most powerful corporations are now funding a bizarre ad campaign attacking Steyer for corporatism.

We urge you to vote for Tom Steyer (you’ll be receiving your mail ballot soon) -- and consider volunteering in the campaign:

RootsAction co-founder Jeff Cohen commented: “As an organization that has long worked for Medicare for All nationally and in California, we are proud to join with Congressman Ro Khanna and the California Nurses Association in supporting Steyer and his staunch advocacy for CalCare. Steyer’s video ads are as powerful and progressive as Bernie Sanders’ -- they lay out a populist pro-working-class agenda and take on all the right foes, including corporate monopoly and AIPAC.”

Thanks for all you do!

In Solidarity,
The RootsAction Team
