During his time on the New York City Council, he co-founded the New York City Council's Progressive Caucus. He has been a fearless opponent of Trump's immigration crackdown: he was arrested outside a Manhattan immigration court while escorting immigrants from the building. 

In Congress, he will oppose U.S. military aid to Israel and insist that any military aid be conditioned on compliance with human rights and international law. He’ll be a pro-peace, pro-working-family voice. He supports Medicare for All, affordable housing, and getting corporate money out of politics.
