On August 25, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL)was named the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee. The appointment by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) and Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (NY-5) gives Moskowitz significant influence over Congressional oversight of U.S. policy toward Israel and the broader Middle East.
Moskowitz has strongly defended Israeli war crimes and is committed to an even stronger U.S.-Israeli alliance. He has repeatedly opposed efforts to restrict U.S. military aid to Israel. In February, on the eve of Trump's war against Iran, Moskowitz was one of the few Democrats to speak out against the Khanna/Massie War Powers Resolution, deriding it as the “Ayatollah Protection Act.” At a time of ongoing violence by Israel against Palestinians and the illegal U.S./Israeli war on Iran, an Israel apologist is gaining more power in Congress even as public opinion has shifted dramatically against the Israeli government and the U.S.-Israel military alliance.
