Why has your state not banned corporal punishment?

Hi Friends,

What century is this anyway?

Why does your state still allow so-called corporal punishment (hitting children) in schools? We don't make kids drink cod-liver oil. We don't spread alcohol on their gums. We don't apply leeches or drain blood or even lay babies down on their stomachs.

The evidence is overwhelming that corporal punishment makes people more, not less, aggressive, anti-social, and mentally unhealthy. And, in a vicious cycle, it makes people more likely to use corporal punishment and other violence on others.

Why should your state not legally ban sabotaging education with this counterproductive and cruel practice?

If you live in one of these states, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, then . . .

This is not a controversy, not a debate, not a question of cultural preference.

An article on the website of the National Institutes of Health summarizes the overwhelming consensus:

"Put plainly, corporal punishment of children does more harm than good."1
