Jeffries Support for Weapons to Israel: “Morally Unconscionable and Politically Myopic”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – PM Tuesday, July 14, 2026

Hakeem Jeffries announced on Tuesday that he will vote “no” on an amendment aimed at halting military aid to Israel. In doing so, Jeffries has turned his back on nearly 75% of Democrats who say they want military aid to Israel to be halted. He has chosen instead to side with the Democratic Party old guard — the same dominant faction that lost twice to Donald Trump.

Jeffries’s stance is morally unconscionable and politically myopic. For nearly three years, Israel has committed genocide in Gaza in full view of the world. Polling has shown that the Democratic Party leadership’s inability to distance itself from the onslaught in Gaza cost its candidates many votes in 2024. This pattern will repeat if the party is unable to change its stance.

As the leader of House Democrats, Jeffries should stand with the vast majority of the party’s constituents, who have said in poll after poll that they no longer support the U.S.-Israel “special relationship.” Instead, Jeffries has shown himself to be a representative of the worst of the worst of Democratic Party politics — someone who is more comfortable working for special-interest lobbies and big donors than he is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with grassroots Democrats.
